Elevating O‘ahu: The Trades Behind Honolulu’s Rail

The Hawai‘i Building and Construction Trades Council (HBCTC) has been instrumental in bringing Skyline, Honolulu’s rail transit system, from vision to reality. Governed by the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART), Skyline is the largest public works project in Hawai‘i’s history and a landmark investment in the future of transportation on O‘ahu.

From the very beginning, HBCTC and its affiliated unions supplied the highly skilled workforce and technical expertise required for a project of this scale. Carpenters, electricians, ironworkers, masons, operating engineers, and countless other tradesmen and women worked together to construct the elevated guideways, stations, and systems that define Skyline as a modern, state-of-the-art rail line.
